Charles Swenson (08:55:34) :

Thanks for bringing up the FBI surveillance of Scott Crow. I remember reading this extensive NYTimes article when it came out, two pages of print in the Sunday edition.

It’s an interesting story in and of itself, but there is another interesting aspect to this, in that the local paper, the Austin realeStatesman, did not reprint this article, or even mention it briefly. This is unusual since they are quick to reprint so many other NYTimes stories for filler. Why they chose not to even mention a story of such intrinsic local interest seems to reflect a degree of complicity in covering up certain stories that don’t fit within their worldview (might be bad for business, and lord knows they need the ad revenue!) and revealing the paucity of their willingness to do true investigative reporting, despite their own daily ads touting themselves as paragons of same.

One would hope for at least a followup on this story, but I’m not putting any real hopes in it.

Again, thanks for bringing this Austin story to an Austin audience that otherwise have had no local access to it. From what I can tell, the Austin Chronicle didn’t even cover it, from what I can from a cursory search….

Keep up the good work!
